(8) Nikolay Davydenko

  • DOB: 02/06/1981
  • Nationality: Russian
  • Became Pro: 1999
  • Height: 1.78
Davydenko - twice a semi-finalist.

Player Profile

The Russian recently returned to the top 10 after a heel injury meant he started the 2009 campaign late.

He did so by winning back-to-back titles in Hamburg and Umag, although both tournaments were held on Davydenko's favoured claycourts.

Failed to replicate those performances after arriving on the North American hardcourts, losing to Andy Murray in Montreal and Gilles Simon in Cincinnati.

However, it should be noted that Davydenko has twice been a semi-finalist at Flushing Meadows, so don't write him off.

Has been as high as three in the world despite a game which does not feature any true weapons. However, having said that there are very few weaknesses in Davydenko's game.

He'll battle away from the baseline all day long and although he appears an unlikely champion, the 28-year-old will not be a soft touch for the top players.
