Player Profile

Still only 20, Juan Martin Del Potro looks primed for a major breakthrough soon.

The giant Argentine hits the ball seriously hard and should be a threat at Flushing Meadows again.

He made the quarter-finals here 12 months ago after a run which saw him win four ATP titles back-to-back.

That golden summer saw him move into the world's top 10 and it's a position he's held on to ever since.

Del Potro is now well settled in his role as one of the game's leading lights and a Grand Slam title would cap a tremendous rise up the rankings.

Warm-up results suggest he will challenge. Andy Roddick was beaten as he won in Washington DC, a result repeated in Montreal where Rafael Nadal was also seen off before Andy Murray just edged him out in the final.

Withdrew from Cincinnati the following week with fatigue, but should be well rested now for a title assault in New York.
