Del Potro: Pure power

Player Profile

The 'Tandil Tower' conquered New York and now has Melbourne firmly in his sights.

A brutal display of hitting saw the Argentine announce himself on the world stage with victory in New York four months ago, a win which cemented his place in the world's top five.

And he will be among the favourites to add a maiden Australian Open title to his trophy cabinet when play kicks-off Down Under.

Still only 21, Del Potro has the power and mentality to threaten in every tournament he enters.

That said, the Argentine showed signs of fatigue at the back end of '09, a first-round exit in Tokyo and a withdrawal from the Shanghai Masters causes for concern.

He responded with a final appearance at the ATP World Tour Finals back in November though and will be keen to improve on his career-best quarter-final run in Melbourne 12 months ago.

However, Del Potro picked up a wrist problem in the run-up to the event which has to be a worry.
