Player Profile

Despite arriving at SW19 as the most successful male Grand Slam champion of all time, Federer has a point to prove at his home away from home.

With his world number one ranking back in the hands of rival Rafael Nadal, the Swiss ace is currently experiencing a rare six-month trophy drought.

His last title came at the Australian Open back in January as his claycourt season proved fruitless with defeats in Monte Carlo, Rome, Estoril and then Paris.

A four-set reverse to Robin Soderling at Roland Garros saw Federer far from his best, and the Swiss even missed out at his beloved Halle when falling at the final hurdle to Lleyton Hewitt.

That said, the 16-time Grand Slam champion still arrives at Wimbledon as firm favourite.

After overcoming Andy Roddick in an epic final last year, Federer returns to SW19 knowing another victory would equal close friend Pete Sampras' seven-title haul.

Federer has reigned six of the last seven years, but with Nadal back to his best, he finds himself under considerable pressure this time round.
