Player Profile

Russian beauty Sharapova has fought back well after kicking off 2010 with a first-round defeat at the Australian Open.

After her disappointment Down Under, the 23-year-old clinched her 21st WTA singles title in Memphis and number 22 in Strasbourg last month.

As is often the case with Sharapova, however, fitness continues to scupper her progress when she appears to be returning to somewhere near her best.

A bruised elbow hampered her preparations for the French Open, although she still reached round three with wins over Ksenia Pervak and Kirsten Flipkens.

But it is Wimbledon where the former teenage sensation has flourished in the past. The 2004 triumph seems decades ago, but the Florida-based right-hander will be dreaming of a repeat success.

Critics suggest Sharapova's best days are behind her and the former teenage sensation will do well to prove them wrong during the fortnight in London.

She arrives at the All England Club fresh off a run to the final at Edgbaston.
