Williams - world number one.

Player Profile

The defending champion will be eyeing a fourth Wimbledon singles title this year and is likely to start favourite to claim it.

The American's powerful, athletic game is ideal for grass, her booming serve winning plenty of cheap points, while the groundstrokes have consistently proved too strong for most opposition at the All England Club.

The world number one started the year by winning the Australian Open - her 12th Grand Slam title - but as has often been the case, the claycourt season proved her Achilles heel.

She recently lost in the quarter-finals of the French Open, having blown a match point against Sam Stosur, and will be glad to be back on the green lawns now.

One of the greatest female players in the history of the game, not to mention of of its best-ever fighters, Serena will take some stopping.
