Player Profile

Last year's beaten finalist will be praying he can go one better and win that elusive Wimbledon title.

Roddick has yet to have his name scribed onto the famous trophy, but the 27-year-old Texan can argue that has been largely down to a certain tennis master, Roger Federer.

The Swiss maestro has denied the American right-hander in no less than three SW19 finals, including last year's classic showpiece, which saw Federer become the all-time leading Grand Slam champion after triumphing 16-14 in the fifth set.

Some would say Roddick's best chance to win at the All England Club has passed after last season's heartache and it has now been seven years since he clinched his maiden, and only, major success at the US Open back in 2003.

'A-Rod' clearly still believes he can win the title and the American's big weapon - his formidable serve - has always been at its devastating best on grass.

But Roddick, who was a shock third-round casualty at the AEGON Championship (losing to Dudi Sela), will have to rely on more than just his marquee shot to stand a chance of ending his long, fruitless wait for another Grand Slam title.

It would be unwise to write him off completely, but the American may leave London empty-handed once again.
