Baghdatis - beat Nadal in Cincinnati.

Player Profile

The popular Cypriot appears to be running into form at just the right time.

Baghdatis followed up a final appearance in Washington with a run to the semi-finals in Cincinnati - a tournament in which he beat both Tomas Berdych and world number one Rafael Nadal.

His run-all-day attitude pulls in the fans - the Greek-Cypriot community in particular will follow him wherever he goes.

That was the case in Melbourne in 2006 when he was a surprise finalist at the Australian Open, his supporters cheering him all the way to a showdown with Roger Federer (which he lost in four sets).

Baghdatis will be targeting a repeat effort at Flushing Meadows and may just be in the sort of nick to cause another major upset.
