    The never-say-die Spaniard has US Open semi-final experience to call upon when he gets his tournament under way.

    Ferrer has made a name for himself on the tour by using his amazing court coverage to force his opponents into making errors.

    The world number 11 also possesses water-tight groundstrokes in his arsenal and has proved he has the ability to transfer his claycourt pedigree onto the hardcourts used at Flushing Meadows.

    Indeed, the 28-year-old right-hander reached the last four in the American Slam, after seeing off current world number one Rafael Nadal in the fourth round back in 2007.

    But the Spaniard, who won in Acapulco earlier in the season, has not been able to rediscover the form of three seasons ago and anything beyond a last-16 appearance would be deemed a success.
