    Having his best season to date, the Austrian left-hander will be confident of a solid tournament at Flushing Meadows.

    2010 has easily been Melzer's finest year on the tour, most notably due to his semi-final run at the French Open which was ended by eventual champion and world number one Rafael Nadal.

    The 29-year-old has been a steady member of the top 50 for the last few seasons, but his run to the fourth round of Wimbledon means the Vienna-born player is primed to end the season inside the top 20.

    And Melzer, with his new-found belief, certainly has the ability to reach the second week at Flushing Meadows.

    Anything further would be deemed a bonus, especially considering his poor record against the best in the business.
