    The Australian Open quarter-finalist suffered a mid-season slump but recently returned to form with victory on the hardcourts of Stanford.

    The spiky Belarusian has slipped down the rankings from her high of sixth at the end of last season, a year in which she proved she could beat the best.

    That slump could partly be explained by a change of coach - she is now working with Sam Sumyk.

    However, after that Stanford win she's looking up again and will arrive at Flushing Meadows in confident mood, especially after a semi-final run in Montreal.

    Interestingly, Azarenka won the girls' title here in 2005 - the year she was named ITF world junior champion.
