Player Profile
The Spanish star is one of a string of modern-day players with the ability to hit almost any opponent off the court on his day.
An awesome forehand is at the heart of his arsenal, while his serve is far from ordinary.
Throw in the fact that Verdasco is a left-hander, and his game has the potential to trouble the very best.
That was certainly the case in last year's Australian Open where he beat Andy Murray and was only just edged out by Rafael Nadal in a five-hour classic - he lost despite hitting 95 winners in the contest.
He went on to make the last eight of the US Open in 2009 and now he'll be looking to improve on that effort.
However, after a fine claycourt season in the spring, recent hardcourt results have not been good and Verdasco will have to improve to challenge here.
