  • Became Pro: 2003

Azarenka - former junior champ.

Player Profile

Azarenka won the junior title at Melbourne Park back in 2005 and now she'll look to add the senior crown to her CV.

The absence of defending champion Serena Williams suggests her chances are decent since Azarenka has lost to the American in each of the past three years, giving her a real scare on the last two occasions.

Played well enough in the second half of last season to suggest she can contend, although the Belarusian has yet to go beyond the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam tournament.

Capable of beating anyone on her day, consistency and mental focus will be key aspects if she is to conquer all in Melbourne.
