The girl from Down Under will go into the tournament having become the first Australian to claim a Grand Slam title in almost 10 years when she shocked Serena Williams at Flushing Meadows in September.

She became the country's first female major champion since Evonne Goolagong-Cawley won Wimbledon back in 1980.

Stosur's best previous effort was in 2010 when she made the women's French Open final, eventually losing out to Italian Francesca Schiavone.

The right-handed player has the potential to establish herself as the WTA's best player in 2012, despite having only won three career titles to date.

She clearly possesses the arsenal to beat any opponent on her day - her famous kick serve is a real weapon, as is a thumping forehand.

The 27-year-old will have home advantage and be expected to go far by the home fans. She'll hope early defeats in Brisbane and Sydney in the run-up help lower expectations, but they will also be a concern.
