Undeterred, Lisicki hit back in 2011, making it her best season to date. She reached the Wimbledon semi-finals and her consistent results saw her rise into the world's top 20 for the first time.
She picked up the WTA's comeback player of the year award for her efforts and will now be looking to make an even bigger impact in 2012.
Lisicki may not be one of the tour's 6ft players, but she can hit the ball a ton and her serve is fearsome. Backed up with some serious groundstrokes, the 22-year-old has the potential to be one of the surprise packages in Melbourne - if she has fully recovered from a back problem sustained in Auckland.
