Spanish second seed Rafael Nadal expressed his delight after he came from a set down to defeat Latvian teenager Ernests Gulbis 5-7 6-2 7-6 6-3 at the All England Club.
The 22-year-old Mallorcan was given a tough afternoon by his big-hitting opponent who showed no sign of nerves in one of the biggest games of his fledgling career.
Nadal's hard-fought victory has set up a third-round clash with German Nicolas Kiefer.
"I'm very happy with my win. I know I had a very tough opponent. Before the match I knew that," said Nadal.
"Gulbis has a very good serve, a very powerful forehand. He is unbelievably powerful.
"Maybe he needs to stop and think before he hits the ball so he realises he does not need to hit every shot with all his power.
"If he does that then he will be in the top positions for sure. But sometimes for a player like him it's better not to stop, because his instincts are so dangerous."
