Marat Safin brought Friday's action to a close by beating Italian Andreas Seppi in four sets.
The clock had just gone 9.25pm when Safin held serve to close out the 29th seed 7-6 3-6 7-6 6-4.
Safin ousted number three seed Novak Djokovic in the previous round and impressed again here with his heavy serves and fantastic returns.
He now gets the chance to claim another seed when he takes on Stanislas Wawrinka (13), who advanced when German opponent Mischa Zverev retired hurt after losing the first two sets.
Safin told the BBC after his win: "I was getting really nervous because I thought we might have to come back tomorrow. It was a good match and we both played well. It was great tennis also and I hope the fans enjoyed it.''
