Maria Sharapova's conqueror Alla Kudryavtseva was in no mood to see her Wimbledon campaign come to tame end on Saturday as she fought her way into the last 16.
The world number 154, who stunned the former champion on Thursday, put a poor second-set display behind her to beat China's Shuai Peng 6-3 1-6 6-4.
The surroundings of Court 14 were a world away from Court One where Kudryavtseva had claimed Sharapova's scalp, yet despite a number of unforced errors she got the job done to set up a meeting with fellow Russian Nadia Petrova.
Petrova upset the seedings to dump fellow Russian Victoria Azarenka out.
In what was always a tight match, it was the more experienced player who emerged a 7-6 (13/11) 7-6 (7/4) winner.
After a serve-dominated first set, Petrova, the 21st seed, edged an epic tie-break to move into the driving set.
The players traded breaks in the second set and again a tie-break was required.
This one was over much quicker as the 16th seed saw her exit confirmed.
