Rafael Nadal has became only the third man in the Open era to hold the French Open and Wimbledon titles in the same year after beating Roger Federer in the final at the All England Club. Here we look back at some of the other greats who got to grips with both surfaces.

BJORN BORG

The Swede won a grand total of six French Open titles to go with his five straight Wimbledon successes and was champion on both surfaces from 1978 to 1980.

ROD LAVER

The Australian is the only man to have won the 'Grand Slam' in one year in the Open era when he swept all before him in 1969. He won Wimbledon four times in total, 1961, 1962, 1968 and 1969, and won the French in 1962 and 1969.

ANDRE AGASSI

The only man since Borg to win the French Open and Wimbledon in his career, having won in Paris in 1999 to add to his 1992 Wimbledon crown.

JAN KODES

The battling Czech won three grand slam titles in his career, following his 1970 and 1971 successes at Roland Garros by winning Wimbledon in 1973.

JOHN McENROE

Never won the French Open but came close to holding both titles in 1984 when he won Wimbledon but lost to Ivan Lendl in Paris.

IVAN LENDL

The Czech won the French Open three times (1984, 1986, 1987) and on the second two occasions also fought his way to the final at Wimbledon, losing to Boris Becker (1986) and Pat Cash (1987).

ROGER FEDERER

Denied a sixth consecutive Wimbledon title by Nadal today and has also lost to the Spaniard in the last three French Open finals.
