I really don't understand why the English have a hard time with Murray not supporting the England in the world cup, you're fans are the worst in the world hated across the UK, Europe and the rest of the world. What kid deserves death threats on his blog and vile 'dunblane' comments after making a joke? there is something ugly, immature and arrogant here, and it's NOT Murray. Murray can wn a grandslam but he'll need to work hard to raise his game.

Are you guys serious??? so what he made a little joke about your footie team? All this comes down to 1 thing England don't have any major hopes in ANY sport right now..... fact! Of course he's gonna be top 5 and has ability to win grand slam, get over it!

I'm glad to see that there are a few people who have a little sense in this forum. It is ridiculous to hate him for what he said about England, he was only 19 at the time and most of what he said was, twisted by the press (typically). It has been reported that he DIDN'T buy an opposition football shirt, and his "whoever England play" quote was taken from friendly banter with Henman. Nothing more. What the general public need to do is read the tabloids less because as with most sports in this country the press will build up and knock down anyone they please and small-minded people will believe anything that is printed. Bottom line is both Henman and Murray along with British national football/rugby team are quite good but not fantastic and hard work doesn't always win trophies when others have a natural gift.

Andy Murray was given a tennis lesson by Nadal. Yes he is improving and will probably get into the top 5 but i cant see him breaking into the top 3. Nadal totally destroyed Murray. He is quicker stronger more aggressive and more importantly a far superior tennis player. He made Murray look like a silly little boy and was firing in winners from all angles. As usual there was much hype about Murray after the previous win and although it was a good comeback Gasquet is well known as a bit of a bottler and was not a serious contender for the tournament. Nadal is the genuine article and will dominate Mens tennis for a long time to come Murray like Henman before him will just have to accept that while Nadal plays tennis he wil never be number one

(Matthew Bartlett says... I agree with the general view point that Murray is average at best There are six billion people in this world and Murray is top ten material (maybe top five). I wish I was that average at anything.)

Give the guy a break !! Hes better that most of you could ever be !!Its an achievement in itself to be ranked in the top 20 of the world ... Yeah hes a bit arrogant and yeah he says stupid things but if you think about so do all the superstars of todays world ??!! Rafa is in good condition and Murray couldn't match that but on a good day i think Murray could give him a good go for his money .

Murray is rubbish. I was so happy when he was easily knocked out by Rafael Nadal whom destroyed him without even trying and could have done so with one arm. I never though Britain could have produced a less charasmatic, more boring number 1 tennis player than Tim chicken Henman but low and behold...up steps Andy Murray. To compare him to John Mcanroe is like comparing Robbie Savage to David Beckham... maybe its the 'Mc' confusing people... Good Luck to Rafa in the Final a Great year for Spanish sport to continue!!!

I am amazed of all the negativity surrounding him. The anti-english JOKE was made when he was in his teens. If people cant overlook that, goes to show what type of person they are. He's done alot of maturing since then. People say he's arrogant, i dont see that at all, he has confidence in him game and never given the impression to anyone that he doesnt need to improve. He's focused on his OWN game and no one else, nothing wrong with that Federer had exactly the same attitude but its easy for him to be diplomatic now when you've been sitting top for years. Give the lad a break get behind him and stay there.

All this bickering about Murray - it really shouldn't matter what he said as a callow youth, there's no doubt he's maturing on all levels and becoming a better person for it. There's no doubt that he has the game to trouble the very best and if he can remain injury free I would certainly think that he is top ten material, which would be a fantastic achievement, and following in the footsteps of Henman who, despite the dissing he gets, was a fantastic player and a great role model. However I fear that he will, like Tim, be contantly frustrated by the fact that there are better players on the scene - I think that towering players like Federer, Sampras, Nadal, although they didn't make it at the first attempt they all showed signs that they could be the very best but his comprehensive defeat showed up a difference in class to even compete with the very best, let alone tower above them. This doesn't mean that he can't do it, of course, and I, for one, wish him the very best with his endeavours.

Robin Clarke.. Your comments are strange.. Murray is actually quite good at keeping a tennis ball up like a football.. He even appeared once on Soccer Am doing just that.. I think ull find Murrays main problem is that is isnt as good as Rafa at TENNIS.. Which may be the reason why he lost at TENNIS the other day.. I dont think it is a ball sense and awareness as u neatly put it that divides the two.. Murray is a very good player.. if any1 else was brushed aside by Rafa (as many are including ROGER FEDERER) we would not be surprised at all or for that matter criticising them.. Murray will improve year on year and is no doubt a top ten player in the world and on top form a top 5.. !! Go on Andy keep up the good work..

I agree with the general view point that Murray is average at best. The simple fact is, he is nothing special. He has no special shot that defines him compared to other players. Federer for example, has a backhand that is feared by every player, while Nadal has the ability to get to and play passing shots that look impossible. Djokovic is not even twice the player Murray is, but just miles ahead of him. As everyone is also pointing out, both Nadal and Djokovic are the same age, so Murray will never achieve something while they are around. Murray is average and while he may cause an upset at best, he will never be one of the "worlds best".

Eh? I am a bit miffed about a lot of these comments? He is a brat? Well was John McEnroe a brat when he disputed line calls? The anti English thing was probably a minor joke which he has not thought about since. Murray is a world class player but has suffered from injuries. He appears to be rather brittle. His career path before his major wrist injury ( which ruined his season) was similar to that of Djokovic. If he can remain healthy he will be a top five player. Whether he wins a grand slam or not I am not sure. I think he has the potential to. In a few years (if injury free) he will be challenging probably more at the US Open or the Australian Open on his favoured hard courts.

Watching Nadal today at Wimbledon, keeping fit playing soccer on one of the practice courts, with a tennis ball, his natural ball sense and awareness, tells me that Murray has no inbred ball talent. Tennis is to much hard work for him, Nadal just sees tennis as fun, he wants to be the best ever.and will be. Sorry Andy but that's how iot is.

Andy Murray CAN be a top 5 player (as long as the injuries stay away)...but i don't think he can win a slam in which federer, nadal and djokovic are competing- he's just nowhere near their level.

Arrogant, immature and not good enough. I dont understand why so many english people get behind him wen he said hed support any team playing against england at football. i love to see him get beat as hes just a boring mumbling child. He was hated as a youth playing through the ranks for his temper and arrogance nd people should stop giving him credit. CMON FEDERER AND NADAL!!!!

Would people stop saying murray is talented enought 2 win a grand slam it really gets on my nerves. You get commentators like mark petchy who go on is if he ig goin 2 be a top 5 player he will never reach top 5. Discount the top 3 he are a list og player with more chance of grand slam success roddick, blake, nalbandian, davydenko, ferrer, gasquet, ancic, baghdatis, berdych, youzhny, gonzalez etc. See my point all of those players have more chance of challaging federer, nadal aqnd djokovic than murray does. I REST MY CASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
