Dont blame murray even best of the best lost matches on wimbledon ..federer lost in 1 st round first time ..steffi lost in first round... Murray was no match to rafa last nt ... it seems rafa is playing altogether different planet...murray will improve next time around..he ws brave saying he can beat rafa but failed to match his words by action...to say least he was very poor... I dont buy reason of playing five setters in the previous rounds hampers performance...its not..these are Pro and they play weeks in and out... it just rafa was/is unstoppable ...federer watch it now....!!! For murray though keep working hard ...thats pays offf....!!!

I think Murray is just an average player and has slow progress rate in last 2 years

Murray is Englands next great hope just like Tim Henman!!! Hope you English see this before you get to excited about him having a chance of winning a Grand Slam!!!!!!!!!

I am willing to eat anybody's pants ( whilst they are wearing them if necessary) the day Andy Murray wins a grand slam. We all praise the laddy the minute he gets to a quarter final but seem to forget how worthless that is apart from the huge prize money. In a few years time when he finally reaches the peak, there willl be more 18-19 year olds coming along with more talent than him. He won't even reach the heights loser Tim never attained .

John Smith says...

andy murray is an average tennis player and will never win a grand slam there are two players of similar age that will ALWAYS stop him nadal and djokovic, djokovic is the same age and is twice as good already as murray and nadals just miles ahead.

I hate andy murrary!! he is arrogant and moody. plus when asked who he was supporting in world cup he said anyone playing england and was wearing an argentina shirt when they were playing englnad. then he expects english people 2 cheer him on at wimbledon. i dont think anyone english should cheer the scot. he will never win a grand slam! hes not good enough!!!!!!

Just retorting to a few of these comments: - Kamran Bhojani - have you not been reading any of the reports about the physical training Murray has been doing? You are falling into the old trap of thinking "bigger is better" Nick Griffiths - "arrogant"? In what way? If you mean by saying he is capable of winning then to quote Anne Keothavong "there would be no point in going on the court if you don't think you've got a chance of winning" Jonathan Hoare - so when's he supposed to eat? The players do so much "press" it was probably the only time he could fit it in. Do you work at a desk in an office? I bet you eat at that desk whilwe at work - how arrogant are you? There is talk here about the old British story and some of you are helping to keep that going - "kick them while they're down" Well done Andy keep working and improving you're game and you'll reap the rewards.

I, for one, am delighted that Andy Murray is out. I am sick of hearing that he is BRITAINS best tennis player when he himself has said that he has no interest in England, only Scotland. I applaud his sense of national pride and this should never be knocked but this is the same player who said that he could never support any english sportsperson or team. So why do we support him?

murray never had a chance...end of.

Ian Moore says...

Nick Griffiths has it spot on, how arrogant can he be to be so English hating, when he gets the majority of his support from England! His age is irrevalent as Nadal is only months older and had already achieved so much. Murray is average at best, and yesterday Nadal made him look it.

Why is Scottish people so ignorant? If Scotland were playing France or Turkey or Germany in any sport I would prefer Scotland to win. For the majority, English people want to see the home nations do well, but because of their arrogance about one tennis player who is never gonna win anything anyway, I say screw them. English are the best nation in the UK across nearly every other sport. Andy Murray will never win a grand slam unless he loses that typical Scottish attitude. OUT

James Curran says...

It is amazing how an off to cuff comment about not supporting England at football can be taken so out of context. I think a lot of the negative comments come from 'English' people who are bitter and jealous that Scotland - with a population 1/10 the size of England can produce a world class tennis player (I am English). There is no doubt Andy Murray is a phenomenal tennis player. Anybody with a knowledge of tennis appreciates how difficult it is to get into the top 100, let alone the top 10. Murray has more talent than Henman and already has a better all round game than Tim did in his pomp. Nadal is two years ahead of Murray in development, but given an injury free run over the next few years there is no reason why Murray cannot be a top 5 tennis player and consistenly challenging - on all surfaces - for Grand Slam titles.

Theresa Carragher says...

Murray will never win a Grand Slam, he is not good enough, and he is bad tempered, and shows no respect to the guy on the other side of the court especially when he was playing Gasquet and trying to pump his so called muscles, look at Nadal and you will see muscles.

Jat Kaur says...

Though Andy is a good tennis player, his wins over the past few years have proven this, nevertheless he is not of the calibre of a Nadal, Federer or Djokovic, he is not even on par with players such as Safin (who I hope is back to his top form). Being British it would have been great to have seen a home grown player do well at Wimbledon, but I just cannot support Andy...he comes across as being moody and an outright brat...for someone who hates anything 'English' he doesn't deserve to win the 'English' tournament Wimbledon! And I doubt he ever will.

Paul Hudson says...

Its the same old problem that us English seemingly face in every sport we play which is then fuelled by an over expectant media. We win one match or have an athlete who wins one race/match and suddenly we can take on the world. This is the case with our much overrated footballers, cricketers, rugby players, motor racers - the list is endless. Murray did well - he got through to the last 8 which justified and to an extent exceeded his seeding of 12 but for us as a nation to expect him to beat someone of Nadal's class and ability is actually hysterical. Get a grip GB - we are not world class and we have very few athletes from profile sports that can be put in that catergory. Murray included.

Posted 12:41 3rd July 2008

Jack Thoburn says...

He has no chance of ever winning anything major as he lacks the class and the strenght to do so. He might complain that he was tired, do you ever hear nadal complaining? The physical difference of two men of similar age is shocking, he should really do something about it. Murray wastes too much energy fist punching and shouting after winning the most mundane of points that the two top players in the world pick off with ease. He's not good enough, and even if he is, will never receive my support.

Posted 12:33 3rd July 2008

Nick Griffiths says...

I think that Andy Murray is a disgrace, arrogant and disrespectful, when he is won a few grand slams maybe he can justify acting and talking like he does. His tennis is good , but not yet Grand Slam class. Why any Englishman would want to support this arrogant, English hating Scot I dont know?

Posted 12:31 3rd July 2008

Dave Sykes says...

There's many comments here giving Murray a hard time! - Get off his back!! - What he's achieved is fantastic and he's only 21. I really like the fact that he displays emmotion on court. Tim Henman was great but never displayed enough emmotion or had that killer edge. With Murray you can see he has the edge about him and he's desperate to win. With a good run, a lot of body conditioning (too injury prone) and hard work he'll be a real contender within two years.

Posted 12:29 3rd July 2008

Adam Seamarks says...

Murray is a fantastic player and has improved majorly over the last year so i would never discount him from being able to win a grand slam at some point. Every player is too far behind Nadal & Federer at the moment but at the rate Murray is improving, he'll be joining them as a 1 of the big guns soon enough! Give Murray a year or two and he'll be 1 of the favourites going into every tournament!

Posted 12:01 3rd July 2008

Jonathan Hoare says...

Nadal & Federer are a class apart. Could not believe the arrogance of Murray after his last 16 victory. To sit at a Press Conference while eating in the manner he was - was nothing short of disrespectful arrogance.
