The scout reports...

The Sky Sports scout casts his eye of exciting Norwegian prospect Vadim Demidov, who is set to join Spanish side Real Sociedad in January. Demidov is by trade a central defender, but as he has shown in recent times he can play in a holding midfield role. Latvian-born, Demidov moved to Norway as a young boy as he moved with his family as his father - an international handball player, continued his career by moving to Scandinavia. Demidov began his playing career when he was picked up by local club Runar. In 2004 he joined Sandefjord and at 17 he was handed his debut, and at this time he was called into the Norwegian youth set-up for the first time. However, soon after he suffered a serious back injury and it took him nearly 12-months to battle back to fitness and in 2006 he spent the season on loan at Manglerud Star in order to prove himself. He showed he was fully recovered and as good as ever, making his debut for Norway's Under 21s before the end of the season and on the back of his loan spell, he was snapped up by Honefoss. His progress continued and education continued at a pace with Honefoss and after just one season he was picked up by Norwegian giants Rosenborg. Soon after his move to Trondheim he was selected by Norway's full team for the first team and he has been a regular ever since. It was little surprise that he settled in well at Rosenborg and he was soon a regular. Demidov was soon attracting attention from clubs in England, Spain and Italy, and indeed many predicted a move to the Premier League would be a natural step. But after rejecting the chance to prolong his deal with Rosenborg, Demidov opted to join Real Sociedad - who he will link up with in January. And just what are Sociedad getting, well in truth one of the most promising defensive players to emerge from Scandinavia in recent years. Demidov is a central defender, but whilst he is good in the air and strong in the tackle - he can also pick a pass. He is capable of bringing the ball out of defence, which is why has sometimes been used in a defensive midfield role. And because of his versatility it remains to be seen, where his long-term future will be - midfield or defence.

The scout says...

His move to Sociedad looks a very intelligent one from Demidov, where he will be able to adapt to one of the world's top leagues without huge pressure. If he copes and proves himself in San Sebastian, then he may not be hanging around too long.
