Wolverhampton Wanderers are ready to end their pursuit of Leicester City striker Chris Wood after failing to reach an agreement.

Wolves lodged an official bid for the New Zealand international, with Kenny Jackett turning to a player he knows well from their time together at Millwall.

It was expected that Leicester would be willing to negotiate, with Woods slipping down their attacking pecking order as they prepare for life back in the Premier League.

We didn’t get a deal agreed with the club or the player, we did make an approach but we haven’t made further contact and we’re moving on.

Talks have broken down, though, and Wolves will now be turning their attention elsewhere.

Jackett said after Tuesday’s 3-2 Capital One Cup defeat by Northampton Town: “It looks like that one has passed now and we’re moving on.

“We didn’t get a deal agreed with the club or the player, we did make an approach but we haven’t made further contact and we’re moving on.

“It is what it is, we have to accept that and it’s something which has come out, we understand, and it’s left me answering the situation.
