Phillip Cocu has revealed that PSV Eindhoven will try their hardest to retain the services of Karim Rekik beyond the end of his loan spell.
Rekik joined PSV last summer on a season-long deal from Manchester City, having been previously had stints with Portsmouth and Blackburn Rovers.
He has produced a series of impressive performances to earn himself a call-up to the Holland squad for the upcoming friendly against France.
And PSV head coach Cocu does not believe it would benefit the 19-year-old defender at this stage of his career to return to the Etihad Stadium and not play regularly.
He hopes to persuade City to let Rekik return to the Philips Stadion next season, telling the club's official website: "We will do everything to work that out.
"Karim is a very important player for PSV. I am not surprised at all he has been included in the Dutch squad.
"For his development it's important he plays weekly. That is also something we will let Manchester City know."
