Fulham have agreed a £5m deal with Bordeaux to sign striker Diego Rolan, Sky Sports News HQ understands.
The Whites are now hoping to convince the player to join the club despite him preferring a move to the Premier League.
Rolan, 24, is understood to be in London to meet with Fulham officials and discuss personal terms.
No serious offer for Rolan has emerged from the top flight but reports in the north east have claimed Newcastle are interested.
Uruguay international Rolan has scored 37 goals in over 100 appearances for Bordeaux.
He also has four goals in 23 caps for his country.
