Sunderland striker Fabio Borini is undergoing a medical with AC Milan ahead of a move worth £5.3m (€6m).

Sky sources understand the deal is for a season-long loan with a condition to buy for a fee of £5.3m.

Milan were interested in signing the 26-year-old in January, along with Serie A rivals Roma, but Sunderland were reluctant to sell as they battled for Premier League survival.

Borini made 24 appearances (19 starts) in the Premier League last season, scoring twice and registering two assists.

The forward, who has been capped once by Italy, joined Sunderland from Liverpool for £14m in the summer of 2014, following a successful season-long loan in 2013/14.

Borini would become the second high-profile departure from the Stadium of Light this summer, following Jordan Pickford's £30m move to Everton.
