Jonathan Walters has committed his long-term future to Stoke City by signing a new two-and-a-half year contract.

The Republic of Ireland international rejected the previous offer of a new deal from the Potters and was widely linked with a move to Norwich City over the summer.

But Stoke confirmed before Saturday's Premier League clash with Chelsea that the 32-year-old had agreed new terms that tie him to the club until the summer of 2018.

Walters has been with Stoke since 2010, when he joined the club from Ipswich Town, and he has scored four goals in nine appearances in all competitions this season, as well as two more for his country.

Chief executive Tony Scholes said: "Jon has been with us for more than five years and is very much part of the DNA of the club.
