Sky sources understand Cardiff City have made a formal offer for Reading striker Adam Le Fondre.
Le Fondre has scored hat-tricks in two of the Royals' past three games and has 13 goals to his name so far this season.
Earlier in the transfer window, the 27-year-old confirmed he would listen to offers away from the Madejski Stadium but his club said they would be reluctant to sell him.
"It is not on our agenda to be moving Adam on," Nigel Adkins said when it was initially suggested he could leave. "We really want him to be at Reading Football Club."
Le Fondre has been at Reading since August 2011 and was named the club's player of the year last season after scoring 12 Premier League goals.
