Hull City goalkeeper Allan McGregor is set to join Cardiff City on loan until the end of the season.

The Scotland international has fallen down the pecking order at the KCOM Stadium and Sky sources have indicated new Tigers head coach Marco Silva is prepared to let him join Cardiff.

Eldin Jakupovic is Silva's number one goalkeeper while McGregor's compatriot David Marshall is the number two option, after joining the Tigers in an £8m deal from Cardiff in the summer.

Cardiff have kept just two clean sheets in 14 matches since Neil Warnock took over in October and the Bluebirds boss is keen to bring in competition for Ben Amos and Brian Murphy.

Warnock held discussions with Cardiff owner Vincent Tan following Saturday's 3-2 win over Bristol City and left him in doubt that he wants a new goalkeeper this month.

Warnock told WalesOnline: "I told him I want another goalkeeper and I'm quite far down as far as that's concerned, I'm hoping to officially announce the loan signing of a Premier League goalkeeper on Thursday."
