Adam Armstrong (Newcastle - on loan at Coventry)

Eighteen-year-old Adam Armstrong has made a sensational start at Coventry City after his loan move from Newcastle. Armstrong is the top scorer in League One with five goals including a number of spectacular strikes, the pick being a 35-yard effort against Millwall. The youngster has 18 appearances on Tyneside but was sent to the Sky Blues - until January at least - to gain valuable playing minutes.

"I would say whoever is playing for Newcastle must be a hell of a player to keep this kid out of the team," purred Coventry boss Tony Mowbray. "I've managed in the Premier League and the defenders are all quick and massive. It's a different kettle of fish [with him] but we're delighted to have him here."

Chuba Akpom: Wants to impress at Hull this season

Chuba Akpom was surprisingly released on loan to Hull this summer, despite scoring a hat-trick for Arsenal in pre-season.

The 19-year-old continued that form in the Championship, with his first senior goal on his debut in City's opening game of the season against Huddersfield. Akpom followed that up with another goal in the Capital One Cup against Accrington Stanley.

"He still has a lot to do and a lot to learn," Bruce said of a player who has been rewarded with a place in Gareth Southgate's England U21 squad to face the USA. "But, in terms of raw talent, you don't have to watch him long to realise the natural ability that he has. Only a few are blessed with that."

Jon Toral (Arsenal - on loan at Birmingham)

Jon Toral has already scored two goals from midfield for Championship side Birmingham City since arriving on a season-long loan from Arsenal. The Spaniard, signed along with full-back Hector Bellerin, from Barcelona's academy, opened his account on the opening day of the season and scored again a week later against Burnley.

Birmingham manager Gary Rowett said after Toral's goal against the Clarets: "I was pleased with Jon, he has an instinct to get into those positions. And when he gets into goal scoring positions, he has got real composure."

Ryan Fraser (Bournemouth - on loan at Ipswich)

Ryan Fraser joined Ipswich on a season-long loan from Bournemouth as part of the deal which saw Tyrone Mings go in the other direction. The midfielder, who made 21 appearances during the Cherries' promotion-winning season, has scored two goals so far for high-flying Town, including a sensational winner against Preston.

Manager Mick McCarthy described him as a "proper player" after Fraser stepped off the bench to inspire a Capital One Cup comeback win against Stevenage.

"He's a very, very good player," McCarthy said. "I'm delighted we've got him. That's the reason I put him on because I thought he would have that effect."

Diego Fabbrini (Watford - on loan at Middlesbrough)

Dubbed Middlesbrough's own "Maradona" by team-mate Albert Adomah, Diego Fabbrini has certainly had a good go at living up to his big billing. Signed on loan from Watford, the Italian lit up the Riverside on his debut, scoring a spectacular goal and setting up the other in a 3-0 win over Bolton.

"I knew since the first second we played against him last season," said Boro boss Aitor Karanka. "I could feel how good he was and how good he can be."
