Aberdeen striker Lawrence Shankland has joined St Mirren on loan until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old has not featured for the Dons so far this term and the recent loan signing of Josh Parker has left him further down the pecking order.

Shankland has made 17 appearances for Aberdeen but all but two of them have been from the substitutes' bench.

He is yet to score for the first team but was the leading goalscorer in the SPFL Development League last season with 31 goals.

Shankland netted seven goals in 14 games during a loan spell with Dunfermline in early 2014 and signed for Aberdeen on the back of netting 13 goals in 39 games for Queen's Park.

The Scotland U21 international told St Mirren's website: "There's been rumours kicking about for a while that I could be coming here and it's good to just get it done.

"The main thing I wanted was to be able to play first-team football on a regular occasion and I didn't really see myself getting into Aberdeen just now, they've got a good squad. When I heard I could get the chance here I couldn't really say no."
