M'Baye Niang says he never considered leaving AC Milan, despite links to Leicester City during the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old forward signed a two-year contract extension at Milan last summer, and has hit five goals in 12 league appearances so far this season.

His performances in Italy reportedly attracted interest from Leicester, but Niang remains committed to Milan, who are currently sixth in the Serie A table.

"I never thought of leaving Milan, although some people thought I was already at Leicester," he told Milan News.

"I always had just Milan in my mind, as I also told [president] Adriano Galliani and the coach [Sinisa Mihajlovic]. I wanted to end the season with the Rossoneri."

Niang scored his third goal in as many games against Udinese on Sunday, but was replaced on the hour mark after picking up an injury.

He must prove his fitness to Mihajlovic before this weekend's match against Genoa, where he spent part of last season on loan, but does not believe the injury is serious.

"I am fine, the doctors are doing their best for me," he added. "We are a fine squad with many important players, so if I don't play then someone else will fill in.

"I had the opportunity to express myself at Genoa and the coach helped me a great deal. I thank them, but on Sunday if I play then I'll give my all for Milan.

"We believe in European qualification, but Sunday's match won't be decisive, there's a long way to go."
