Leicester target Aleksandar Dragovic has joined Bayer Leverkusen from Dynamo Kyiv, the Bundesliga club announced on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old central defender had been heavily linked with a move to the defending Premier League champions.

However, he has elected to sign a five-year contract with Leverkusen, who could face the Foxes in the Champions League later on this season.

"Kyiv was the right and important club for me but now I'm attracted to the Bundesliga as one of the best leagues in the world," Dragovic told the German club's website.

"It's fantastic that I've been able join Bayer 04 as one of the top clubs in Germany and a Champions League side as well as playing alongside my international team-mates Julian Baumgartlinger and Ramazan Ozcan."

Austria international Dragovic won two Ukrainian Premier League titles and the Ukranian Cup once during his time in Kyiv.

Leicester had already made enquiries about the defender's availability last summer and reportedly submitted a £12m bid in January, which was rejected by Dynamo.

The Clarets have already rejected two bids from Leicester for the 23-year-old and Sean Dyche remains adamant the former Manchester United youngster will remain at Turf Moor.

However, Leicester are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements as they attempt to compete on four fronts this season, and the club could return with a third bid for the highly-rated former England U21 international.
