Cammy Bell has left Rangers by mutual consent and joined Dundee United on a two-year deal.

Bell arrived from Kilmarnock in May 2013 and made 39 appearances in his first season as he helped Rangers win the League One title.

However, Bell suffered a shoulder injury in August 2014 and spent the rest of the year out of action with Steve Simonsen and Lee Robinson replacing the 29-year-old between the posts.

The arrival of former Swindon keeper Wes Foderingham last summer further restricted Bell's chances and the one-cap Scotland international did not figure at all in Rangers' second season in the Championship.

Dundee United manager Ray McKinnon revealed they were not the only club interested in signing Bell.

"We targeted Cammy and we had to work hard behind the scenes," McKinnon told the BBC. "It was nearly hijacked at the last minute.

"It is a marquee signing for us and - as you can tell - I am absolutely delighted."

Rangers, meanwhile, are reportedly in talks with fellow Scotland international Matt Gilks as a replacement for Bell.

Gilks, 34, who held talks with Hearts last month, is available on a free transfer after his contract with Burnley ran out at the end of the season.
