Newcastle forward Ivan Toney is set to join Barnsley on a 28-day emergency loan, according to Sky sources.
The 19-year-old joined Newcastle from Northampton Town in the summer but has made just three substitute appearances for the club so far.
Toney featured against his former club in the Capital One Cup second round and then again as the Magpies were knocked out by Sheffield Wednesday in round three.
He also played the final five minutes in the 2-2 Premier League draw with Chelsea in September.
Barnsley are struggling in League One's bottom-four with just four wins from 16 games under manager Lee Johnson, and they were knocked out of the FA Cup first round by non-league Altrincham on Saturday.
And Toney, who began his career at Northampton and scored 10 goals in 44 appearances in League One last season, joins the Tykes after injuries to number of their forwards.
