Shrewsbury have signed midfielder James Wallace from Sheffield United on loan for the rest of the season.

Wallace had a loan spell with the Shrews in 2011 and rejoins after making seven appearances for the Blades this season.

The 24-year-old has represented England at under-19 and under-20 level and began his career at Everton, appearing in a Europa League tie in 2009.

"I'm delighted to be back and hopefully start playing some games," Wallace told the Shrewsbury website.

"It was an easy decision (to come back to Shrewsbury). It's a good club and there's good people here.

"I've got more experience now. I was only a youth team player when I came to Shrewsbury from Everton.

"I've learned League One a lot more. It's a lot more physical than when I was younger.

"Micky Mellon has given me the chance to come and play football which I was delighted with."

Meanwhile Darren McKnight has left Shrewsbury after having his contract cancelled by mutual consent.

The 20-year-old midfielder, a Northern Ireland Under-21 international, joined the Shrews in the summer from Barnsley on a one-year deal but did not make a first-team appearance.

A statement on the club website read: "We would like to thank Darren for his hard work and dedication during his time at the club and wish him well for the future."
