Former Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong has signed for Major League Soccer club LA Galaxy.

The Galaxy's coach and general manager Bruce Arena is delighted to add the experience of de Jong, who played in the 2010 World Cup final for Netherlands when they lost 1-0 to Spain.

He also played for most of the semi-final of the competition in 2014 when his nation were beaten 1-0 by Argentina, and is now set to link-up with Ashley Cole and Steven Gerrard in California.

"Nigel is an experienced midfielder who will help the players around him get better," Arena said.

"He will add qualities on the field that can strengthen our team in all areas. We look forward to Nigel coming to Los Angeles and joining our club."

De Jong began his professional career in 2002 and has played for Ajax, Hamburg and A.C. Milan, as well as City.
