Middlesbrough have submitted a £4m bid for Hull City defender Harry Maguire, according to Sky sources.

Boro head coach Aitor Karanka is keen to bolster his defence as he prepares his squad for their first season back in the Premier League.

A move for Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic broke down earlier this week, with the Serbian international requiring surgery on a rib problem that could keep him out for the 2016 season.

Boro have now shifted their focus to England U21 centre-half Maguire, who made 33 appearances for Hull last season, starting 25 games.

Maguire was a substitute in the Tigers' 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in the Sky Bet Championship play-off final, with Steve Bruce choosing club captain Michael Dawson and Curtis Davies as his preferred pairing in central defence.
