Newcastle are in talks over the signing of Brentford's Alan Judge, according to Sky sources.

However, it is understood that any deal may not be finalised until January due to the Republic of Ireland player's ongoing recovery from a double leg-break suffered last season.

Newcastle have been keen to bring the discussions forward due to interest from a number of other clubs but the player will not be fit to play until at least the end of October and is unlikely, therefore, to pass a medical.

Judge, who had been in superb form for the Bees last season, suffered a horrific break in his right leg in a Championship match at Ipswich last April.

He has undergone several operations, including one earlier in August, all of which have been successful.

Judge signed for Brentford from Blackburn in 2014 after a successful loan spell and has scored 17 goals for them in the Championship.
