Derby have made "a substantial offer" for Watford striker Matej Vydra, according to Sky sources.

Vydra started the EFL Cup defeat to Gillingham this week and has four years remaining on his contract at Vicarage Road.

But the Czech Republic international is behind Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney in the striking pecking order at Watford.

He joined Watford on loan from Italian club Udinese in the summer of 2012 and was the Championship's player of the year in his first season, scoring 20 goals for the Hornets.

He spent the next season on loan at West Brom, but found goals and first-team football hard to come by in the Premier League.

The following season he was once again loaned to Watford and his goals helped fire them into the Premier League.
