Blackburn Rovers have completed the signing of former Manchester United and Sunderland defender Wes Brown.
The 36-year-old had been training with Blackburn since leaving the Black Cats in the summer but a deal was delayed by a calf injury sustained during pre-season.
Brown has since overcome the problem and has been rewarded with a season-long contract with the Sky Bet Championship club.
"Wes has obviously been training with us and is now fully fit," Rovers boss Owen Coyle said following Blackburn's 1-0 EFL Cup defeat at Leeds on Tuesday.
"He's been outstanding. He's a constant professional - his attitude has been exemplary around the training ground with the young players, helping and encouraging them.
"He's trained the last four or five weeks, played a number of U23 games and done very well.
"We'll have a chat and hopefully we might have some positive news on that in the next couple of days.
"He would certainly add to our group. He's shown his quality in the games he's played and I think he's still got a lot to offer as a player.
"The important thing with Wes is making sure he is fully fit, because when he is he's a wonderful player."
Brown is also set to work alongside Damien Johnson and David Dunn coaching the club's U23 squad.
