Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Sam Hutchinson has signed a new three-year contract with the club to commit himself to Hillsborough until 2020.
The new deal caps off a remarkable revival for Hutchinson, who retired from the game in 2010 at the age of just 21 while at Chelsea due to a recurring knee injury.
Hutchinson initially arrived at Wednesday on a 28-day loan in February 2014 from Stamford Bridge, originally featuring as a central defender.
Released by the Blues at the end of the season, Wednesday nabbed Hutchinson on a free contract with the 27-year-old going on to make 83 appearances for the Owls in all competitions.
Converted to a defensive midfield role, he has won the fans' Player of the Month award on three occasions during his time at the club and has been a mainstay of Carlos Carvalhal's side this season, featuring 23 times.
Wednesday sit within the play-off positions in the Sky Bet Championship in sixth position following 12 wins from their opening 25 league games.
The new contract for Hutchinson follows on from the announcement by the club that Fernando Forestieri has also signed a new deal.
Hutchinson and co next face play-off rivals Huddersfield Town in a key clash at Hillsborough on Saturday, with the Tigers four points and two places above Wednesday.
