Barnsley are close to signing Leeds midfielder Alex Mowatt for an undisclosed fee, Sky sources understand.

The Tykes are in the market for a midfielder to replace Conor Hourihane, who was sold to Aston Villa earlier this week.

Mowatt has made 20 appearances for Leeds this season but only has six months remaining on his current contract at Elland Road.

He was Leeds' player of the season in 2014-15 and has been a senior player at the club since graduating from the club's youth academy in 2013.

Two players have left Leeds on loan in the current transfer window, with Luke Murphy joining Burton Albion and Toumani Diagouraga going to Ipswich.
