Jack Butland remains happy at Stoke and appreciates how much the club has aided his development, says Mark Hughes.

The Stoke boss was speaking ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash against Bournemouth with goalkeeper Butland set for a third successive match following his recent return from a long-term injury.

Some reports on Friday are suggesting Manchester City are ready to make a move for the 24-year-old England international, while team-mate Charlie Adam recently predicted that Butland would be snapped up by "one of the big clubs".

Hughes said: "Jack's an outstanding 'keeper and I'm sure in the future there will be more concrete interest but at the moment it's just speculation.

"He's only just got back in the team and speculation from before his injury has started again. From Jack's point of view he's concentrating on staying fit and well.

"He understands what he's got here, playing in the Premier League. He's had senior international recognition here and I know he's very happy here and recognises the part we've played in his development.

"Jack will have suitors in the future no doubt because he's an outstanding young English 'keeper but that's for the future and his immediate focus is playing for Stoke where he's very happy."

Hughes reconfirmed that keeping hold of Ryan Shawcross was a top priority, adding: "Once negotiations start I hope they can be completed very quickly."

Hughes also emphasised the club's support for Stephen Ireland, who broke his leg in training a year ago.

"I think it's only fair (that he gets a new deal) and it's the right thing to do," Hughes added.

"He's out of contract at the end of this season so we're going to extend that clearly to give him the time to get back fit and well, so he can hopefully win another contract.

"The end of this season will come too soon for him so we will give him that extension he needs to recover."
