United are in talks with Inter Milan about the potential signing of Croatia international winger Ivan Perisic, according to Sky sources.
It is understood the fee for the 28-year-old would be in excess of £36m and that both the player and Inter are keen on the deal.
The Manchester Evening News claims United want Atletico Madrid's Jan Oblak or Leicester City's Kasper Schmeichel if goalkeeper David de Gea joins Real Madrid this summer.
The newspaper claims United are increasingly confident of holding on to De Gea, but have a contingency plan in place - including Oblak who has an £85m release clause in his Atletico contract.
United face competition from Roma for Benfica's Sweden international central defender Victor Lindelof, according to the Sunday Mirror.
It is understood the player is on a list of United defensive targets, but according to the Mirror, Roma have declared their interest meaning Benfica are more likely to be able to demand their £35m valuation.
Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho has urged vice-chairman Ed Woodward to tie up a quick deal for Burnley defender Michael Keane, according to the Mail on Sunday.
They claim United would offer £24m for the player, but would keep £6m of that because of a sell-on clause they inserted in the deal when they sold him in 2014.
Elsewhere in Sunday's newspapers, Stoke City have been linked with an amazing move for forward Wayne Rooney. The People claims the club's sponsors bet365 have the financial muscle to assemble a £45m package.
However, the Sun on Sunday has a different take on Rooney's future. They claim Everton's interest in bringing back the player has lessened and China and the US now look like more probable destinations.
Boss Mourinho said earlier this week he would be happy to see the player stay at Old Trafford next season.
Fellow striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic's agent has told Sky in Italy that there are many offers for the Manchester United forward.
He said: "Many clubs have asked for Zlatan. He can play two more years and will stay in Europe, 100 per cent."
United are poised to offer manager Mourinho a five-year deal after he led them to Europa League glory, according to a report in the Sunday Express.
And Mourinho has confirmed to Sky Sports News HQ he has handed over responsibility for summer transfers to United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.
Sky sources understand Mourinho is targeting four top signings this summer, with Antoine Griezmann the primary target.
When asked how likely it was that the Griezmann transfer would happen, he replied: "I have no idea. You have to ask Ed Woodward. He knows since March, who I want, what I want, how much I want."
United also confirmed last night that Michael Carrick will be staying until at least June 2018 after signing a new one-year contract.
Carrick said: "What a fantastic way to finish off the season, with a new trophy in our cabinet. I am delighted that my journey with this great club is going to continue."
