Cardiff City have rejected a £3m offer from Sheffield Wednesday for their captain Sean Morrison, Sky sources understand.
Morrison, a centre-back, played 46 times in all competitions last season as Cardiff finished 12th in the Sky Bet Championship and eight places behind Wednesday, who suffered play-off final heartbreak at the hands of Huddersfield in May.
Carlos Carvalhal reached an agreement with Sheffield Wednesday to stay on as head coach next season, as the club look to once again reignite a push towards the Premier League.
Morrison has now emerged as a target for the rival Championship club, who have already allowed six players to leave the club following their failed promotion bid.
Cardiff signed Morrison from Reading in August 2014 and made him the club captain last summer.
The 26-year-old played in all but two of Cardiff's league games in the 2016-17 season, scoring four goals.
