Hull City have joined Middlesbrough in bidding for highly-rated Brentford forward Jota.

Sky Sports News reported earlier this week that Middlesbrough had seen a second bid of £4.5m plus add-ons rejected by the Bees.

Hull have also seen a bid rejected - and one that is understood to be considerably lower than the Bees' valuation of £8m.

Jota has been the subject of enquiries from a number of Premier League clubs this summer with Everton, Newcastle, West Ham, Huddersfield and Brighton all interested.

Brentford manager Dean Smith confirmed ahead of his side's Sky Bet Championship clash with Wolves that they had received "a couple of bids from a couple of different teams for Jota".

He said: "None of them have been near the value we value him at. The football club have stood firm before and will do so again unless the valuation is met."

Jota missed both last Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Ipswich and 4-2 Carabao Cup win over QPR with a back complaint but Smith expects him to play against Wolves.

Smith said: "He's trained today. We've asked him if he's ready for Saturday and he's looking forward to it. He's been himself. Him and his sidekick Sergi (Canos) mumbling away in Spanish. I can understand a bit of what he's been saying."
