Adam Yates has left Port Vale on a one-month loan deal to join Sky Bet League Two side Northampton.

The 32-year-old long-serving defender has made over 200 league appearances for Vale since joining in 2009 but he has not played a competitive game since April.

Boss Rob Page told his club's official website: "I've always said I wouldn't stand in the way of anybody who wants to go and play football matches.

"Adam has been a top professional so far this season despite not being involved in the matchday squads and we wish him all the best during his time at Northampton Town."

Cobblers manager Chris Wilder brought Yates in on loan when he was manager of Halifax Town over 10 years ago.

"Adam is a consistent performer and he adds some more experience to the squad which we were looking for," Wilder told Northampton's official website.

"He has played a lot of games in League One and League Two and he gives us that stability.

"I had Adam as a kid on loan from Crewe when I was at Halifax and Marc Richards, who played a lot of games with him at Port Vale, is full of praise for him.

"He is another strong character to add to the group that we've already got and I'm sure he will have no problems fitting in to what we are trying to do."
