Aston Villa left-back Joe Bennett has joined Bournemouth on loan until January after signing a one-year extension to his contract at Villa Park.

The 25-year-old has made 38 appearances for Villa since joining them from Middlesbrough in August 2012, but he has featured only once this season in the 5-3 Capital One Cup victory over Notts County.

He spent last season on loan with Brighton and has now headed off for another loan spell on the south coast.

Bennett told Villa's official website on Tuesday afternoon: "I'm really pleased to have signed the new contract.

"The manager and all the staff have been really encouraging.

"They believe the loan deal, and hopefully the opportunity to play regularly in the Premier League, will enhance my development and I feel the same.

"I'm really excited about the prospect of playing for Bournemouth and hopefully helping them perform well this season in the Premier League.

"They've already made a positive start to the new season and, like everyone else, I've been really impressed with the fantastic job Eddie Howe has performed. They have a really good side.

"The move happened really quickly. I trained this morning and then things started to develop.

"It's a good opportunity for me to add to the Premier League experience I've already amassed from my time at Aston Villa."
