The latest player to be spotlighted is Scottish starlet Ryan Gauld.
The scout reports...
Dundee United's batch of youngsters is certainly catching the eye and making headlines north of the border and the one being most talked about is Ryan Gauld.
Gauld, like team-mate and good friend John Souttar, began his career with Brechin City Boys Club, before attracting the attention of a number of top-flight clubs.
Like Souttar, Gauld opted for Tannadice - joining their youth set-up in 2006 aged just 11.
Gauld, despite his diminutive size - he currently stands just 5ft 5in - rapidly rose through the youth ranks at United.
In May 2012, just a few months after his 17th birthday, he was handed his senior debut and he has barely looked back since.
It was not long before he was being linked with big moves across the board, but Dundee United handed him a new long-term deal in early 2013.
And when you say big clubs, it is the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona amongst those said to be keeping tabs on Gauld - who has been labelled 'baby Messi' by fans and team-mates alike.
It is more than unkind to shoulder any player with that tag, but the way Gauld can glide by tackles and challenges it is easy to see why the comparisons are being made. Clearly Gauld has a lot of work to do, but he has some wonderful basic tools to start with.
His close control and balance is something that can't be taught - they are just natural. Gauld loves running at defenders and attacking in the final third, and he does it so well.
Clearly some feel his size is an issue, but in modern football - and thankfully so - that is becoming less and less of an issue. If you're good enough then your size and age has seemingly little to do with it.
Gauld is far from the finished product, but he is learning all the time and it is hard not to get excited by him.
The scout says...
Gauld is clearly not letting the headlines get to him, many a young player - especially in Britain - has been put off when linked to some of the world's biggest clubs.
Dundee United have done some excellent work with Gauld and clearly at this moment his immediate future is best served at Tannadice, but if he improves as they and most of Scottish football hope - he could emerge as one of his country's finest ever talents.
